Mediterranean countries are particularly fond of it. That is why nowadays the first associations with basil are Italian spaghetti, Neapolitan pizza or juicy green pesto. However, it is worth knowing that apart from cooking, basil has also been valued for centuries for its medicinal properties.

Basil in the kitchen

As we mentioned earlier, basil is an indispensable ingredient in Mediterranean dishes. Fresh or well-dried basil leaves, due to their characteristic strong aroma and taste, are added to salads, soups and sauces, especially tomato sauces. In some regions of the world, basil has even gained the name of "tomato herb", precisely because it complements all tomato dishes so well. However, this is not the end of the kitchen uses of basil. Its fresh, refreshing taste will also enrich many healthy vegetable and meat dishes. We know from experience that there is nothing better than a well-prepared zucchini or eggplant with a bit of basil. In addition, basil enriches the taste of poultry dishes and works well in the production of homemade pâtés. To diversify your dishes, it is also worth trying the preparation of wine vinegar or olive oil flavored with basil, finger-licking!
